Safe dreadlocks: how to wear dreads and keep your hair
July 12, 2026 · 4 min read

"I want dreads, but I don't want to sacrifice my hair" — half of my dreadlock conversations start with this line. Good news: nobody has to sacrifice anything anymore.
Real dreads vs removable dreads
Real dreadlocks are your own hair matted into dense locs. Beautiful, authentic and… irreversible: they can't be unbraided, only cut off.
Removable dreads are ready-made kanekalon locs braided into your hair. On the outside — the same dreads: dense, textured, any colour. Inside, your own hair is simply braided into a plait, waiting for the day you want it back.
How long they last
A set wears for 1.5–2 months, then comes a touch-up (from 3,000 ₽): I re-braid the grown-out roots and the style looks fresh again. The set itself is reusable and survives several rounds of wear.
Why dreads are the best winter hairstyle
In summer everyone braids, but dreads work all year round:
- they don't get crushed or staticky under a hat;
- they need no styling in frost or slush;
- they're warm — verified by an Angolan's memory of her first Tyumen winter.
If you want to try the afro style in autumn or winter — start with removable dreads.
Who they suit
Anyone with at least 5 centimetres of their own hair. Men get special love here: men's removable dreads (from 5,000 ₽) are the fastest way to change your look radically — and reversibly.
How to book
Send a photo of your hair and a reference of the dreads you like. I'll put together a set for your colour and length and quote an exact price before the work begins.
